The play of life

March 9th, 2010 TFS No comments

Before I discovered the reality behind the game, I really thought that poker was 100% luck and gamble. Now it’s crystal clear that poker is a game of skill, with a bit of luck, and a bit of gamble. As life is.

You always need a bit of luck, but for the skilled one, it is not even necessary. You may have pocket aces, but as the cards show, you can improve your hand. Sometimes you win without having to go to the showdown, sometimes you must keep calling bets and finally win a big pot, and sometimes you will be beaten by a superior hand.
But sometimes you will have nothing but “2” and “7”, which can develop into a full house in the flop (happend to me once), but usually will end up in what it is: crap.

As in poker, life is a bit of gamble. Sometimes you will have all needed to success, and with that you will be well. Sometimes you will catch some good cards, and sometimes you will face weak opponents too. And you will make more of a profit.
But sometimes, even when you have the ‘best possible hand’ in real life terms, someone will come before you and rip you out off everything, letting you naked in the snow. And after that, you will realize about that person having nothing more than pile of crap.

It is basic to know who is in front of you, which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill. The same as life.
